New Owner of 101 Carat Diamond Names it 'The Shizuka Diamond'

A rare, shield-shaped F colour, VVS1 diamond weighing 101.27 carats sold for HK$48,487,500/ US$6,211,249 on 28 May 2008 at Christie’s Hong Kong has been named ‘The Shizuka Diamond’ by its new owner as a gift for his wife of 16 years.

The Shizuka diamond netted $6.2 million at "Jewels: The Hong Kong Sale" and at the time of its sale it was the largest colorless diamond to have sold at an auction anywhere in the world in nearly 20 years.

Mounted into a tiara for the auction, the F-color Shizuka was cut from a daunting 460-carat piece of rough and is shield-shaped with 92 brilliant facets.

The 35.56-carat diamond sold for $24.3 million, making it the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction.
